Luis Freitas

Luis Freitas has promoted in the last 25 years, as principal scientist at the Madeira Whale Museum, scientific research projects in ecology and conservation of cetaceans in Madeira and the Macaronesia, and participated in collaborative research initiatives and projects on these animals, including: research and modelling of the distribution, habitat selection and habitat use of marine mammals; b) the estimation of abundance and trends, namely for monitoring purposes; c) the study of movements and habitat use resorting to photo-identification, satellite telemetry and biologging; d) research on diet and trophic ecology using stomach contents and stable isotopes; e) the study and monitoring of interactions between human activities and cetaceans.
