Alcina Maria Pereira Sousa

Alcina PEREIRA DE SOUSA is Assistant Professor (2005), English Linguistics, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Madeira (Funchal-Portugal), where she has been course director, Erasmus coordinator, among other roles, since 1993. Her main academic interests include discourse analysis, intercultural pragmatics, corpus linguistics, terminology and translation, stylistics and critical and creative reading in a foreign language, linguistics/literature interface, as well as language and identity, on which she has supervised MA and PhD dissertations, IPRA postdoctoral mentor, done research in national (GYNECIA – FCT/PTDC / FER-HFC / 31187/2017; GENTOUR – FCT/PTDC / CS-SOC/ 119524 / 2010- 2015) and international projects (P.I.N.O.K.I.O – 503349-LLP-1-2009-1- IT / Comenius- CMP), having delivered talks as a visiting scholar worldwide (PhD External Reviewer for Non-Slavonic Languages, Faculty of Arts, University of Nitra, Resol. No.16/2012; a coordinator of the STATUS UMa-Madeira project, Steering Transition and Advancement of Tertiary Underrepresented Students, Ref. 2021-1-RS01-KA220-HED-000032129, RS01 – Foundation Tempus – Erasmus+ programme, Serbia, 2021-2024). She is research member of the University of Lisbon Centre of English Studies (ULICES- FCT), a founding member of the European Network for Intercultural Education Activities (ENIEDA), Adjunct Faculty member at the Institute for the Empirical Study of Language of the Ohio University (USA), ambassador in Portugal of the Poetics and Linguistics Association (PALA), as well as a member of editorial and scientific boards of a number of academic journals and scholarly associations in Portugal and abroad. Her recent publications include book chapters, four co-edited volumes, as well as many peer-reviewed research papers.
