This is a Europe-wide public event dedicated to popular science and fun learning. In 2018, 371 cities, 1.474 207 attendees, 33.544 researchers out of which 827 MSCA fellows participated in the Night.

The events showcase what researchers really do for society in interactive and engaging ways, promoting research careers to young people and their parents. Fight cancer, stop global warming, prevent hunger and drought, invent devices for disabled people, and make human life easy in space! This could be the fascinating, life-changing daily work of the faces behind science who you can meet at the European Researchers’ Night.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie grant agreement Nº 955378.

The word “Macaronesia” comes from the Greek μακάρων νησοι, “islands of the fortunate“.

Nowadays, it is used to describe a collection of five archipelagos in the North Atlantic Ocean; AzoresCanary IslandsCape VerdeMadeira and the Selvagens Islands.

The islands share many common traits, from our volcanic origins to numerous endemisms.

In Macaronight, we want to highlight the common traits of the archipelagos of the Macaronesia and show our cultural heritage, creating a scientific Macaronesian identity based on what brings us together.

MacaroNight is coordinated by La Palma Research Centre S.L..
